This week we are going to look at current events. I would like for you to find an article in the newspaper. (Some examples might be the Madison Press, Columbus Dispatch, USA Today) Choose an article from the paper and give us a brief summary of the article. Then think about how that event might affect our local community, or even our own lives.
I will have newspapers available in the classroom if you do not have them at home. The library is also a great resource to find newspapers.
Have fun with this!
I look forward to reading your responses!

My Favorite Teacher
I will never forget my favorite teacher. Her name was Mrs. Ellis and she was my third grade teacher. Mrs. Ellis was part of the reason that I became a teacher.
Who is your favorite teacher? This can be a past or a present teacher. What made her/him so special?
Write a letter to that teacher explaining why you enjoyed their class, and thanking them for being a good teacher. Please use friendly letter format.
I will be looking at your letters and grading them for content and format.
Have fun!

Haiku--Wednesday
Now that you have written a haiku using a template, it's time to try one on your own.
Haikus are often written about nature or the seasons. Think of the summer. What images come to mind when you think of the summer months?
Use these pictures as inspiration if you would like. This will be graded.

Be creative! I can't wait to read your haikus!

Summer Fun!
This may come as a surprise to some of you, but teachers love summer break just as much as students do!
This summer I plan to relax, sleep in, read some good books, and take a trip to Gettysburg with my husband. I have never been to Gettysburg before, but the history fascinates me.
Please share at least one thing that you plan on doing this summer. Give us some details. Then, post a response to someone else's post.
I will be looking through your responses and you will be receiving a grade. This is a required post.Have fun!

Class Expectations
This is a required post!!!
I would like you to think of some expectations or rules that you feel should be in place this year in 6th grade Language Arts. What are some things that we should all be conscious of in order to have a safe and fun environment where we can all learn? What are some things that I probably expect of you?
Please post at least one class rule in the comment section below. We will compile a list that we all agree on. Then we will all sign it and post it in the room!
